Laser scanning a steering wheel may seem excessive at first because the geometry appears fairly simplistic. But on closer inspection, a steering wheel actually consists of precise dimensions and curves; each dimension was carefully thought out for ideal ergonomics.

For this project we were asked to perform a laser scan of the lower center console of the 2015 Subaru WRX and STI. The resolution of the scan was detailed enough to capture the textured surfaces of the OEM dashboard. Areas that were not needed were masked off in tape.
