Scanning 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet 991

The Porsche 911 is a popular high-performance vehicle and a well-known sports car. But it is also known for having precise curves and surfaces; all specifically proportioned to reflect the corresponding generation and time. The precision (both cosmetically and mechanically) is a large part of what makes the 911 a classic and an iconic shape.

For companies looking to create aftermarket products for the 911, this poses a difficult challenge: the curves and surfaces are difficult to extract and measure manually. For this project we performed a full exterior laser scan of the 2011-2017 Porsche 911 Carrera at high resolution and high accuracy. We used our high-power, blue laser scanner, allowing us to capture all the outer body data, including the various trim details, black plastics, and silver and chrome components. The model we scanned in particular was the convertible cabriolet version; which was not a problem for our scanner as we can easily capture both dark and light colours simultaneously. All the lower body and rocker sides were captured, as well as all the wheel and tire positions, providing useful information for aftermarket aerodynamic upgrades.
